About US

May 23, 1995 was the first celebration of National Tap Dance Day in Cincinnati. The event was started by Cincinnati tap dance instructors, Gloria Esenwein and DeAnne Bryll, as a “small community showcase for local groups”. Gloria and DeAnne, both instructors at the time at Cincinnati Dance Theatre, wanted to provide their CDT adult classes a chance to share what they had learned and invite family and friends without the pressure of a set performance. The first year was a great celebration that the next year and for the following years, the event grew with more groups invited to participate. In 1999, the first Master Teacher was invited to be apart of the program, which has become an annual attraction for Cincinnati’s National Tap Dance Day. “…gathering people together that love tap, and putting on a show” - Gloria Esenwein

Cincinnati Taps, Inc. is a non-profit organization started in 2004, whose goal is to promote tap dancing through education and performance. Currently we sponsor two events throughout the year.

First, History of Hoofin' in November offeres master classespaying homage to our predecessors. Along with the classes of historical dances, short lessons will be given on their significance to our dance legacy. Join us and add to your repertoire steps and combinations handed down to us from tap masters

Second, National Tap Dance Day Celebration in May offers a performance of local tap groups along with tap dance professionals to pay homage to Bill "Bojangles" Robinson. Along with a performance CTI offers master classes for all ages and levels.
